London City Airport - TWWK rating 5

London City Airport is another one of my favourites, probably my favourite London airport. It's been refurbished recently, it has a small kids play area near gate 5, and baby-changing and breastfeeding rooms with changing table, sink and an armchair. What makes it very kid-friendly in my book though is the size. It's a very small airport, easy to navigate. The queues are never very long, whether it's security checks or passport control, you will likely almost walk through. If you need to drop the pushchair off to be put in the hold, the oversized items desk is literally next to the check in desks. There is no family lane, but the station on the right at security checks is the one you want: unlike the other ones, you won't need to take liquids out or even remove the baby from the pushchair, which is very convenient (all stations might have been adapted now, last time I was here it was July 2022). There is a small pharmacy with some baby essentials after the security checks. While there is an accessible route from the gates waiting areas to the tarmac, pushchairs usually have to go down a flight of stairs with about 15 steps. The pushchair will be folded at the waiting/passport control area, and then taken downstairs and handed over to the crew before stepping outside and walking to the aircraft. Pushchairs on arrival are usually collected at one of the two belts. Unfortunately not all destinations will go from LCY, but having the opportunity, I would always fly to and from LCY, especially when flying solo. Planes to and from LCY are also smaller, with only two seats per side, so when flying as a couple with a baby or solo with a toddler, it means no strangers in the other seat, yay!
