Bill’s tries to be child friendly and even runs pancake parlours and ‘kids eat free’ offers during half-term. The Victoria branch nevertheless fell short when I visited with my two children and family. It is very easy to reach: Victoria Underground is step free and the restaurant is one minute from the Cardinal Place exit.

Despite specifying that we had a pushchair, the first table offered was upstairs. The ground-floor space is very limited, with little room to move or park a buggy. At one point we were asked to fold ours to make space for another, which is difficult when it contains the equivalent of a small supermarket’s worth of essentials.

The children’s breakfast and lunch menus are different. We ordered shortly before the 11.30am changeover and were told we would have to wait to order anything from lunch—try explaining that to a toddler who has decided they want macaroni cheese. Thankfully, the children’s pancakes were enormous and filled them both up.

On the plus side, the food is very nice, there are healthy options, and colouring sets are provided to keep children entertained.
